My hubs had been nagging me about the pig stomach lying in the freezer for the past 2 weeks. I was supposed to cook a soup dish with it, but with what happened, I simply wasn’t up to the laborious process required. Anyway, after constant nagging and hints, I finally decided to just do a stewed pig stomach dish that the kids will eat too.
I am still on my 100 days vegetarian diet so I didn’t taste the stew gravy at all. My tasters said it is flavorful enough so I guess it’s ok.
To clean the pig stomach, follow the steps here in annielicious’s blog.
The stew is done largely following the recipe from noobcook
2 pig stomachs, washed and prepped, then cut into 4 pieces per stomach
1 whole pig muscle, cut into 4 pieces
1.5 tblsp good quality dark soy sauce
1 liter water
4 thin slices old ginger
1.5 bulbs garlic, separated but unpeeled
2 tblsp good quality dark soy sauce
1 cinnamon stick
1 star anise
1/2 tsp Taiwanese pepper salt (It smells just like 5 spice powder though)
I followed noobcook’s method completely, except the pig stomach is added aft the water comes to a boil.
After the stew gravy comes to a boil again after adding the pig stomach, I transferred the stew to my thermal pot, bring to boil again and slipped it into the outer sleeve to continue cooking while i go to bed.
The hubs and kids’ dinner for today is settled. Now I have to think of something veggie for myself tonight!
